1.a tea hound
在茶話會(huì)、舞會(huì)或各種社交場合，總有些喜歡追逐漂亮女子并對(duì)她們大獻(xiàn)殷勤的家伙。這類花花公子就被稱為tea hounds 愛交際的男子。
例句：John is much mature now, I think he's no longer a tea hound. 約翰現(xiàn)在成熟多了，我想他不再是愛交際的花花公子了。
somebody's cup of tea
英國人對(duì)茶情有獨(dú)鐘，無論什么飲品都代替不了茶在他們心中的位置。因此somebody's cup of tea指的就是to be something that one prefers or desires 對(duì)某人胃口的東西，使某人感興趣的東西。
例句：Football/Opera/Chemistry is not his cup of tea. 足球/歌劇/化學(xué)可不是他的愛好。

2.a storm in a tea cup
這是18世紀(jì)法國哲學(xué)家孟德斯鳩的一句名言。有一次他聽說圣馬力諾發(fā)生了一場騷亂，就用a storm in a tea cup這個(gè)比喻來形容整個(gè)事件。圣馬力諾是歐洲最小的共和國，人口稀少，因此孟德斯鳩認(rèn)為那里的騷亂對(duì)整個(gè)歐洲局勢無關(guān)緊要。If someone exaggerates a problem or makes a small problem seem far greater than it really is, then they are making a storm in a teacup. 顧茶杯里的風(fēng)暴”自然算不得什么大事，所以就被用來表示“小題大做，大驚小怪”的意思。

3.tea break
飲茶一直被英國人看作是一種悠閑和舒適的享受。英國人喝茶的時(shí)間比較固定，不像我們那樣隨時(shí)隨地都可以喝茶。他們習(xí)慣于三餐兩茶，每天工作、學(xué)習(xí)一段時(shí)間后，喜歡停下來休息一刻鐘左右，喝杯茶，吃些點(diǎn)心，補(bǔ)充體力。這段時(shí)間叫做tea break(茶休)an intermission from work, usually in the middle of the morning or afternoon, for a cup of tea, a snack, etc.。茶休有morning tea(上午茶)和afternoon tea(下午茶)之分：上午茶一般在十點(diǎn)半左右;下午茶一般在下午四五點(diǎn)鐘。
茶休的習(xí)慣源于英國18世紀(jì)的一位貝德芙公爵夫人安娜。她每天在午餐和晚餐之間總會(huì)感到有點(diǎn)饑餓，于是就在每天下午四點(diǎn)到五點(diǎn)之間邀請(qǐng)三五位知心好友，來喝點(diǎn)茶吃點(diǎn)點(diǎn)心。再后來就演變?yōu)?ldquo;上下午工間或課間吃茶點(diǎn)的休息時(shí)間”。這種茶休在英國可是雷打不動(dòng)的小憩時(shí)間。
